It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

winter mood board

A tradition in my family is to start decorating for Christmas on Halloween or the day after. Yes, we are THAT crazy Christmas family. You can thank my mom for that, and I don’t even mind it. It’s the beginning of November and my Christmas vibes are shimmering like tinsel.

This year is a bit different though because this year I am living in a RV. . . by choice.

ok, she starts Christmas at Halloween, and she is living in an RV by choice. Yep, it’s time to send her to the loony farm.

If you haven’t read the full story about why we are living in an RV, you can check it out here. For now, though let’s focus on Christmas. Our current home is definitely a tiny home, i.e. 108 square feet. Not exactly a whole lot of room for Christmas decorations! So, to satisfy the Christmas part of me that must get out or I will be depressed all winter, here is my plan:

  1. Convince my partner in crime that we must decorate the truck like a reindeer. I mean … we live in a trailer (aka the sleigh), it only makes sense for Rudolph to be pulling it, right? Absofreakinlutely! It’s going to be HILARIOUS! Yes, I talked/pushed him into it. It’s happening. I can’t wait.
  2. Laugh every time I see the truck. I’m winning at Christmas this year already.
  3. Get a wreath! I have a tiny door on my tiny RV, a Christmas wreath is in order. With a bright red bow!
  4. You know those super tacky sticky window decals that kids love and parents hate? Well, I’m thinking I need some snowflake ones to go on our main window.
  5. Indoors — I may get a teeny tiny tree. I’m talking those cute 10” ones you see in the Target dollar section. Other than that it’s going to be a cinnamon fragrance in my wall plugin, and Christmas music all day er’ day.

Christmas is going to look a lot different this year. But it’s a season I’m going to make the most of because it’s only happening one Christmas.

Lord, please don’t make me eat my words.

So, I have created this mood board because it represents how my holidays will look this year. We like to stay at state parks, and there are always a lot of beautiful trees. So leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas we will be traveling, visiting cute towns, enjoying nature, and snuggling up with a cup of coffee on dreary days.

Has anyone else ever had an unconventional home at Christmas time? Or do you have a genius decorating idea for me?

  1. I can’t wait to see pictures of the truck and all your Christmas decor! It sounds like you’re making the most of the limited space and I love it! Will you get to be back with family for either of the holidays?

    1. Both actually! :) We will be in Houston the 4th-19th of December, and then in Minnesota the 19th-4th of January. Can’t wait!
