A couple of years ago I was invited to a Galentine’s dinner with a few friends. Nothing special just margaritas at a local place in town, a fun dinner out. Dinner had surprise gifts from a lovely friend, delicious tacos, and a few margaritas… and ended with a tipsy trip to Target where we all tried on everything new from the Universal Threads line. It was my first time to celebrate Galentine’s day and now I look forward to it every year!
This year, as Galentine’s was coming up I started getting homesick for friends and decided to reach out to a group of local bloggers I’d met on Instagram to see if they’d be up for something. This turned into the best thing ever, and will go into my memories as another favorite Galentine’s! We decided to do a photo shoot at a darling venue in Minneapolis called Anahata Collaborative. Throw in delicious cocktails in a can from Cutwater Spirits (that vodka mule was amazing!), cupcakes and chocolate and the party was on!
I had so much fun gathering these girls together for a party, and it was sooo easy to put together. Target for the win! I put together a quick balloon garland (it only took 30 minutes!), grabbed a bunch of flowers (my number one tip for throwing a party is fresh flowers!), and then picked up some pre-made treats at Target. Nothing fancy, but it was cute, fun, and delicious.
Throwing parties is one of my favorite things, and it was a nice distraction from everything that’s going on with work. Thrive is coming up in just a couple of weeks and doing things like this with some girlfriends was a wonderful distraction. I’m so grateful for every single one of these girls and so glad we’ve become friends! Moving to a new city where you don’t know anyone is very daunting and intimidating. Heather was one of the first girls I met online and she added me into a group of bloggers on Instagram. I’d gotten to meet a couple of them in person before, but this was the first time I’d gotten to meet up with all of them at once. It was so fun and has me so excited for the next time we get together.
I vote we make this a yearly event babes, what do you think? Do you celebrate Galentine’s or Valentine’s, neither or both? I’d love to know your traditions or if you forgo the holiday completely. Even if you don’t really celebrate Valentine’s, isn’t it always time to get together and celebrate your friendships with your girls?
Special thanks to Lara at Anahata Collaborative for hosting us at your beautiful space, and to Katzie our amazzzzing photographer! If you’re in Minneapolis and needing a venue or a photographer look them up!
